This role sits at the heart of a high-scale consumer platform that is transforming the way people manage complex, fragmented car ownership experiences through intelligent automation.

You will lead the evolution of critical backend systems that power end-to-end transaction orchestration, ensuring reliability across complex multi-step workflows with external partners.

The position combines deep hands-on engineering with technical leadership, focusing on rebuilding and scaling core automation systems used by millions of users.

You will work closely with product and engineering leadership to design resilient, asynchronous architectures capable of handling real-time state complexity at scale.

A significant part of your role will involve refactoring legacy systems into modern, decoupled, and testable services while improving system reliability and observability.

This is a high-impact leadership position where engineering excellence directly shapes user experience and business growth.

Accountabilities

* Lead the design and evolution of backend orchestration systems that manage complex, multi-step transactions with external insurance and service providers.

* Own and improve core automation frameworks, ensuring scalability, reliability, and fault tolerance across asynchronous workflows.

* Drive the refactoring of legacy systems into modular, decoupled architectures with strong testing and observability standards.

* Collaborate closely with engineering teams to define system design standards and implement robust backend engineering practices.

* Act as a hands-on technical leader, spending significant time coding, reviewing, and solving complex backend challenges.

* Investigate system failures, edge cases, and performance issues to continuously improve reliability and success rates.

* Guide the transition toward AI-assisted and next-generation internal tooling to support large-scale platform growth.

* Partner with cross-functional teams to align technical decisions with product strategy and business objectives.

Requirements

* Strong experience in backend engineering and technical leadership, ideally with a background as a tech lead, architect, or startup founder.

* Deep expertise in building and scaling distributed, asynchronous systems with complex state management.

* Strong proficiency in TypeScript and backend frameworks such as Nest.js, along with experience in modern web architectures.

* Experience with cloud infrastructure, particularly AWS services such as ECS, EKS, and Lambda.

* Strong systems thinking mindset with a focus on decoupling, reliability, and failure recovery in large-scale systems.

* Proven ability to debug complex business logic and identify edge cases in production systems.

* Hands-on engineering approach with a willingness to spend significant time writing and reviewing code.

* Strong leadership and communication skills, with ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams.

* Experience working in high-scale consumer platforms is highly desirable.

* Strong product intuition and ability to connect engineering decisions to user impact.
