Solutions Architect– Data Platforms (Fabric & Databricks)

About the Role

Suitable candidates may be based in Cape Town, Johannesburg, or Durban.

To design end-to-end enterprise data platforms and lakehouse architectures on Microsoft Fabric and Databricks.

This is a hybrid role split between:

* Billable client architecture work

* Pre-sales & business development support

* Data strategy engagement

You will work closely with the Head of Business Development and Head of Data Strategy to shape customer solutions & help win new work as well as design and delivery solutions as part of client projects.

Responsibilities

End-to-End Solution Design

* Architect enterprise lakehouse platforms (Fabric / Databricks)

* Design ingestion frameworks (batch, streaming, APIs, CDC)

* Define medallion architecture implementations

* Design semantic layers and analytics consumption patterns

Cloud & Infrastructure

* Design Azure and AWS data platform environments

* Define networking, identity, and security architecture

* Work with Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform / Terragrunt)

* Define CI/CD patterns for data platforms

Security & Governance

* Implement role-based access models

* Design Unity Catalog structures

* Define data classification and governance frameworks

* Align to enterprise security requirements

Integration Architecture

* Design source integrations (ERP, CRM, SaaS, APIs)

* Design real-time and event-driven architectures

* Define integration patterns for enterprise systems

Pre-Sales & Strategy

* Participate in client discovery sessions

* Translate requirements into solution designs

* Contribute to RFP responses

* Support commercial estimation and sizing

* Present architectural solutions to senior stakeholders

Internal Capability Building

* Contribute to architecture standards

* Develop reusable reference architectures

* Support technical enablement of engineering teams

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Data Science, Data Management,

Information Technology, Business Analytics or a related field.

Experience

* 8–12+ years designing enterprise data solutions

* Experience designing lakehouse architectures

* Strong Fabric and/or Databricks experience

* Strong Azure cloud experience (AWS advantageous)

* Experience with Terraform / Infrastructure as Code

* Experience designing secure enterprise data platforms

* Strong stakeholder engagement experience 

* Consulting experience

* Pre-sales / RFP involvement

* Experience working with enterprise clients

* Knowledge of medallion architecture best practices

* Experience with DevOps and CI/CD pipelines

* Commercially aware

* Confident presenting to C-level stakeholders

* Structured thinker

* Able to operate across delivery and sales

* Comfortable balancing billable and strategic work
