On today’s battlefield, GPS can no longer be relied upon. When GPS signals are jammed or spoofed, drones lose navigation, aircraft are misdirected, and missions fail. Across large parts of the world, GPS simply does not work, a situation that directly affects mission success rates.

At Vydar, we develop European technology that replaces GPS with AI and visual navigation, enabling autonomous systems to operate even in GPS-denied environments. But our work goes beyond GPS alternatives. We also build technology for last-mile targeting, terminal guidance, drone interception, night vision, and distributed sensor systems.

What makes us different is that we build everything from the ground up, our own European hardware stack, operating system, AI software, and communication layer. No dependencies, no hidden risks, and no reliance on restricted or foreign hardware.

Role Overview

As a Software Engineer, you will play a key role in developing and scaling Vydar's next-generation defence technology. You will work closely with our founding team and technical partners to bring our solutions from lab to field deployment.

You will own and evolve the software architecture of our core systems, ensuring that our applications are robust, maintainable, and optimized for constrained hardware and AI edge computing devices used in defense applications. You are someone who is not afraid to make bold design decisions, challenge existing approaches, and iterate quickly when something is not working.

You will join a team of 7 to 10 highly skilled engineers with backgrounds in aerospace, microelectronics, embedded hardware and software, and machine vision.

Key Responsibilities

* Design, implement, and maintain the software architecture across Vydar's core applications

* Optimize code for performance, memory footprint, and execution efficiency on constrained hardware

* Identify architectural bottlenecks and propose practical, well-reasoned design solutions

* Drive technical decision-making, exploring and evaluating different approaches without hesitation

* Collaborate closely with hardware and control engineers to ensure seamless software-hardware integration

* Support field testing, system bring-up, and on-site validation of deployed systems

* Document architectural decisions and maintain high standards for code quality and review

Requirements

* Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or any other relevant discipline

* MSc preferred, BSc considered with relevant experience

* Proven experience designing and maintaining software architecture in production or research environments

* Strong ability to optimize code for performance, latency, and resource usage

* Comfortable making and defending design choices, and willing to revisit them when needed

* Ability to debug complex system-level issues independently

* Good communication in English (Dutch is a plus)

* European citizenship or valid EU work permit

Nice to Have

* Experience with embedded or constrained hardware environments

* Familiarity with hardware-software co-design

* Experience in defence, robotics, or AI applications
