Software Download Diagnostic Engineer – Automotive Aftermarket Diagnostics

We are looking for a Software Download Diagnostic Engineer to develop and maintain software download functionality within the Codiac diagnostic tool used in automotive workshops.

In this role, you will design and maintain ECU software download functions that enable technicians to update vehicle software safely and efficiently. The position requires strong knowledge of vehicle diagnostics, workshop processes, vehicle communication protocols, and electrical architecture.

You will work closely with engineering teams and technical support teams to ensure reliable diagnostic functionality and efficient fault tracing within automotive aftermarket systems.

Key Responsibilities

Diagnostic Software Development

* Develop software reload/download functions for ECUs within different vehicle models.

* Implement and maintain diagnostic software functionality using JavaScript within the Codiac diagnostic suite.

* Ensure alignment between developed diagnostic functions and technical/diagnostic requirements.

System Maintenance & Improvement

* Maintain and enhance existing software download functions for previous vehicle models.

* Continuously improve diagnostic tool capabilities to support evolving vehicle software architectures.

Diagnostics & Fault Tracing

* Assist technical support teams with troubleshooting and fault tracing related to software download issues.

* Investigate interactions between vehicle systems, diagnostic tools, and backend databases.

Workshop Process Support

* Apply practical understanding of workshop technician workflows when designing diagnostic solutions.

* Ensure software functions are usable and reliable in real workshop environments.

Required Qualifications

* Strong knowledge of ISO-14229 (UDS – Unified Diagnostic Services).

* 3+ years of experience developing aftermarket software download tools.

* 5+ years of JavaScript development experience.

* Experience working with the Codiac diagnostic suite.

* 5+ years of experience creating or authoring technical content for workshop manuals or diagnostic systems.

* Previous experience working as a technician in an automotive workshop.

Preferred Skills

* Understanding of vehicle communication protocols and electrical topology.

* Knowledge of vehicle software architecture and ECU communication.

* Experience working with automotive diagnostic databases and fault-tracing systems.

* Familiarity with automotive aftersales and workshop processes.
