We are looking for an accomplished Principal Backend Engineer with deep expertise in microservices, scalable backend architecture, low-latency systems, and high-performance application development. This role is suited for a senior technology professional who can combine hands-on engineering with architectural ownership and technical leadership.

The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in Python, Node.js and/or Golang, MongoDB, distributed systems, algorithms, solution design, and scalable application architecture, with the ability to make critical technical decisions and guide engineering teams toward robust solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement low-latency, highly available, scalable, and high-performance backend applications.

• Own the architecture and technical direction of assigned modules and services.

• Design, develop, and evolve microservices-based architectures for large-scale applications.

• Write clean, reusable, testable, maintainable, and efficient production-grade code.

• Develop backend services using Python, Node.js, Golang, or similar modern technologies.

• Design and implement APIs and server-side application logic to support user-facing products.

• Collaborate with frontend developers to integrate user-facing components with robust server-side services.

• Design and integrate MongoDB and other data-storage solutions based on application requirements.

• Integrate multiple data sources, databases, external services, and internal systems into scalable backend architectures.

• Evaluate system design choices with a focus on performance, scalability, reliability, maintainability, and cost.

• Apply strong algorithms, data structures, and problem-solving approaches to complex engineering challenges.

• Make timely and pragmatic technical decisions while balancing product requirements and engineering constraints.

• Define and communicate technical approaches, architecture decisions, design principles, and implementation strategies to relevant stakeholders.

• Implement appropriate security, data-protection, authentication, authorisation, and compliance practices.

• Ensure backend systems follow scalable application and software-design principles.

• Identify performance bottlenecks and drive optimisation across application and infrastructure layers.

• Establish coding standards, testing practices, design patterns, and engineering best practices.

• Conduct technical reviews and contribute to architecture discussions, code reviews, and engineering standards.

• Mentor senior and junior engineers and provide technical guidance on complex backend problems.

• Continuously evaluate technologies and approaches that can improve system performance, reliability, and developer productivity.

What Makes You a Great Fit

• 13+ years of experience in backend software engineering, distributed systems, microservices, or large-scale application development.

• Strong hands-on experience designing and implementing microservices architectures.

• Deep expertise in Python, Node.js, and/or Golang.

• Strong experience with MongoDB and NoSQL database technologies.

• Excellent understanding of algorithms, data structures, solution architecture, and complex problem-solving.

• Proven experience designing scalable, highly available, low-latency, and performance-sensitive applications.

• Strong understanding of distributed systems, API design, service integration, and backend architecture.

• Experience integrating multiple data sources, databases, APIs, and external systems.

• Strong knowledge of fundamental software and system-design principles for scalable applications.

• Experience with server-side templating and CSS preprocessors is an advantage.

• Strong understanding of application security, data protection, accessibility, and security compliance.

• Strong coding standards with a focus on reusable, testable, maintainable, and efficient software.

• Proven ability to take architectural ownership of modules and drive solutions from design through production.
