The Opportunity

We’re hiring an AI Engineer with strong voice AI experience to help design and build the systems that power our AI experiences, with a particular focus on real-time conversational voice systems, LLM-driven workflows, and orchestration layers. You’ll work closely with the Director of AI Engineering and product and engineering partners to ship reliable AI features into production, with strong attention to evaluation, data, latency, and software quality.

What You’ll Do

* Design and build voice AI systems for real-time, conversational user experiences

* Develop and maintain AI orchestration layers, including agent workflows, state management, and system handoffs

* Architect and improve workflows across speech-to-text, LLM reasoning, tool calling, and text-to-speech

* Think through tradeoffs in conversation design, prompt design, tool architecture, latency, and turn-taking

* Build systems that handle ambiguity, interruptions, edge cases, and real-world voice interaction challenges

* Write clean, tested, production-ready Python across APIs, services, and orchestration code

* Design data pipelines that capture, transform, and surface insights from patient and member interactions

* Partner on technical direction and help shape how Blooming Health builds and deploys voice-based AI products

What You’ll Bring

Must Have

Voice AI Experience

* Hands-on experience building and shipping voice AI or real-time conversational AI systems in production

* Experience working with speech-to-text, text-to-speech, telephony, or streaming audio pipelines

* Strong understanding of the challenges in voice systems, including latency, interruptions, barge-in, turn-taking, transcription quality, and conversation flow

* Experience integrating voice infrastructure such as Twilio, WebRTC, or similar real-time communication tools

AI / LLM Foundations

* Hands-on experience with LLM APIs such as OpenAI, Anthropic, or similar

* Strong understanding of prompt engineering patterns, limitations, and production tradeoffs

* Experience designing conversational AI systems and reasoning through workflow design, agent structure, and uncertainty handling

* Ability to evaluate when to use agents, tools, retrieval, or deterministic logic in AI systems

Python Proficiency

* Strong Python skills, including experience with async Python such as asyncio, httpx, and similar frameworks

* Experience building APIs and backend services

* Strong grasp of clean code, testing, and production software quality

Data Engineering Fundamentals

* Strong SQL skills, ideally with PostgreSQL

* Experience building ETL pipelines and data workflows

* Understanding of data modeling, schemas, and how to structure data for AI systems and analytics

Nice to Have

AI / LLM Depth

* Experience with multi-agent systems, tool use, and function calling

* RAG, embeddings, and retrieval systems

* Familiarity with evaluation and testing strategies for AI systems

* Experience improving reliability and observability in production AI systems

Data / Infrastructure

* Streaming data experience, including Kafka or event-driven systems

* Experience with orchestration tools such as Airflow, Prefect, or Dagster

* dbt or similar transformation tools

* Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud platforms such as GCP or AWS

Healthcare Domain

* Experience in healthcare, care management, patient engagement, or SDOH

* Familiarity with HIPAA and healthcare data and privacy considerations

Compensation and Benefits

* Salary: $250,000 to $300,000
