Full Description

About the Company

DeepReach is building the infrastructure layer for real-world embodied AI. We focus on large-scale teleoperation data, Vision-Language-Action (VLA) training, and real deployment environments—not staged demos. We are not a simulation-only research lab; we train on real distributions, deploy in real environments, and iterate fast to close the loop between model training and physical performance.

About the Role

As a Data QA & Operations Intern, you will join the Data Operations team onsite in the Bay Area. You will work closely with the Data Lead and engineering teams to ensure the quality, integrity, and reliability of our robotics data pipelines—from teleoperation data collection to model training datasets. This role is ideal for detail-oriented individuals with a data or technical background who are passionate about operational excellence and quality assurance in a fast-paced AI startup environment. Your work directly improves VLA model performance and real-world robot deployment success rate.

Responsibilities

* Quality Assurance: Develop and execute QA protocols for robotics data collection, annotation, and validation workflows.

* Data Auditing: Perform systematic reviews of teleoperation data, sensor readings (RGB-D, proprioception), and task annotations to ensure accuracy and completeness; handle high-volume, multi-sensor robotics data streams at scale.

* Process Improvement: Identify data quality issues, conduct root cause analysis, and propose process or tooling improvements to prevent recurrence.

* Operations Management: Manage daily QA operations, track QA metrics (e.g., error rates, throughput), and report findings to the Data Lead (Data Ops team size: to be communicated during interview; may assist in coordinating with external annotators or part-time QA team members as needed).

* Collaboration: Work closely with robotics engineers and research teams to align QA standards with model training requirements; may need to enter robot test areas and assist with on-site data collection.

* Documentation: Create and maintain SOPs, QA checklists, and governance documentation for data operations.

* Team Support: Assist in coordinating with external annotators or part-time QA team members as needed.

Qualifications

* Education: Recent graduate or upcoming Spring graduate in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics, Engineering, or a related quantitative field. Local Bay Area candidates preferred.

Required Skills

* Attention to Detail: Demonstrated ability to spot inconsistencies, anomalies, or errors in structured/unstructured data; high patience and tolerance for repetitive review work.

* Technical Aptitude: Proficiency in Excel (vlookup, pivot table), familiarity with SQL (basic queries, joins, filtering) and Python/pandas (basic data processing, ability to read data structures); basic understanding of data pipelines; familiarity with robotics data tools (ROS bag, CVAT/V7/LabelStudio, MeshLab/CloudCompare) is a plus.

* Responsibility & Ownership: Self-starter who takes ownership of tasks, follows through with high-quality execution, and has strong ability to trace problems and decompose ambiguous requirements.

* Communication: Clear written and verbal communication skills; ability to document processes and escalate issues effectively.

* Work Mode: Comfortable working onsite in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with physical robotics systems; able to work efficiently under tight iteration cycles and conduct long-term screen-based data review.

* Authorization: U.S. work authorization required (CPT / OPT supported).

Preferred Skills

* Experience with QA, data validation, or operations management in a tech or research setting.

* Familiarity with robotics data (e.g., images, point clouds, joint states) or computer vision datasets.

* Basic scripting skills (Python or SQL) for automated data checks.

* Experience with annotation tools or data labeling platforms (e.g., CVAT, V7, LabelStudio).

* Previous internship experience in data operations, quality assurance, or program management.
