Robotic Arm Engineer III (FANUC)
Autonomous Solutions, Inc. (ASI)Full Description
About ASI
At ASI, we are revolutionizing industries with state-of-the-art autonomous robotics solutions. We deliver technologies that enhance safety, productivity, and efficiency. Guided by our core values-Simplicity, Safety, Transparency, Humility, Attention to Detail, and Growth-we are shaping the future of automation in dynamic, real-world environments.
Position Overview
As a Robotic Arm Engineer II, you will own the engineering, programming, and system integration of FANUC robotic arms deployed on ASI's autonomous yard truck platforms. This role extends beyond programming-requiring full lifecycle ownership from concept through deployment, including tooling design collaboration, system validation, and real-world performance optimization.
You will play a critical role in delivering a highly reliable robotic solution that enables autonomous connection and disconnection of air and electrical systems between trucks and trailers. This is a hands-on engineering role that blends robotics, controls, and applied systems thinking in complex, field-deployed environments.
Key Responsibilities
* Own the design, programming, and optimization of FANUC robotic arm systems across development and production environments.
* Lead robotic system integration efforts, including coordination with mechanical, electrical, and software engineering teams.
* Partner with design teams to define and refine end-of-arm tooling (EOAT) and interface mechanisms for robust truck-to-trailer connections.
* Develop and deploy reliable motion strategies, error handling, and recovery routines for real-world, variable conditions.
* Integrate and optimize FANUC vision systems (2D/3D iRVision) to support precision alignment and adaptability.
* Drive testing, validation, and performance benchmarking, ensuring systems meet reliability, safety, and uptime requirements.
* Troubleshoot complex field issues, applying structured problem-solving and root cause analysis to drive permanent solutions.
* Support onsite deployments and collaborate directly with customers and internal teams to ensure successful system performance.
* Contribute to engineering standards, documentation, and continuous improvement of robotic systems and processes.
* Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership within the robotics team.
Required Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Robotics, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
* 3+ years of experience designing, programming, and deploying FANUC robotic systems or similar robotic arm technologies in industrial environments.
* Strong experience with FANUC programming (TP/KAREL) and system configuration.
* Experience with FANUC iRVision (2D and/or 3D) integration and calibration.
* Proven ability to work across hardware/software boundaries, including sensors, PLCs, and system interfaces.
* Demonstrated experience in system integration and field deployment, not just isolated cell programming.
* Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose issues across mechanical, electrical, and software domains.
* Ability to operate independently in fast-paced, ambiguous environments.
* Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience with autonomous systems, mobile robotics, or outdoor/industrial automation environments.
* Familiarity with PLC integration, fieldbus communication (EtherNet/IP, ProfiNet, etc.), and controls systems.
* Experience designing or collaborating on EOAT/tooling solutions.
* Exposure to safety-rated robotic systems and risk mitigation practices.
* Prior experience mentoring engineers or leading small technical initiatives.
