Principal Engineer, Applied AI

This role sits at the core of an enterprise Data & AI organization, focused on building and deploying production-grade Generative AI solutions that directly impact customer experience and internal efficiency. You will take ownership of end-to-end AI execution, from early prototyping through scalable deployment in real-world systems. The work spans LLM-powered applications, RAG pipelines, conversational agents, and AI-driven automation across both digital and voice channels. Operating in a fast-moving, cross-functional environment, you will collaborate with product, engineering, and external partners to turn emerging AI capabilities into reliable, high-impact solutions. This is a highly hands-on role for a builder who thrives on solving complex, ambiguous AI challenges. You will also help define architectural direction, establish best practices, and mentor other engineers while shaping how GenAI is used at scale across the organization.

Accountabilities

* Lead the design, development, and deployment of Generative AI solutions across customer-facing and internal platforms, ensuring scalability, reliability, and production readiness.

* Build and optimize LLM-based systems including RAG pipelines, vector database integrations, prompt engineering workflows, and AI-powered applications such as chatbots, summarization tools, and document intelligence systems.

* Develop and deploy conversational AI and agent-based systems across digital and voice channels, supporting real-time user interactions and operational automation.

* Create proof-of-concept applications to evaluate new GenAI use cases such as knowledge assistants, classification systems, and intelligent document processing.

* Partner with ML/AI Ops teams to ensure robust pipelines, observability, deployment reliability, and ongoing performance monitoring of AI systems.

* Collaborate with product and engineering leadership to define architectural standards, align technical strategy, and drive cross-team execution of AI initiatives.

* Evaluate external AI vendors and APIs, integrate third-party solutions where appropriate, and guide production rollouts of GenAI capabilities.

Requirements

* 8+ years of experience in machine learning, AI engineering, data engineering, or software engineering, with recent hands-on focus on Generative AI and LLM-based systems.

* Strong Python expertise with experience using modern AI/ML frameworks (e.g., LangChain, Hugging Face, Transformers, OpenAI APIs).

* Proven experience building and deploying production-grade AI applications, particularly chatbots or conversational AI systems.

* Deep knowledge of RAG architectures, vector databases (FAISS, Pinecone, Weaviate, Chroma), and prompt engineering strategies.

* Strong understanding of LLM evaluation, tuning, orchestration, and cost/performance optimization techniques.

* Solid SQL skills and familiarity with large-scale data platforms (e.g., Snowflake).

* Strong communication skills with the ability to translate complex AI concepts into clear insights for technical and non-technical stakeholders.

* Experience working in fast-paced, cross-functional environments with strong ownership and collaboration mindset.

* Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
