About the Role

We are seeking a Machine Learning Engineer (Freelance) for an 8-month mission with our client in Brussels. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of digital services by operationalizing robust, scalable, and maintainable ML solutions. You’ll be at the intersection of data, software engineering, and MLOps, ensuring that machine learning models deliver real-world impact in both Azure cloud and on-premises environments.

What You’ll Be Doing

* Processing, analyzing, and preparing data from diverse internal and external sources

* Designing and implementing data transformations and feature engineering pipelines

* Monitoring data quality, consistency, and reproducibility within ML workflows

* Collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure reliable, reusable data for ML use cases

* Designing, training, testing, and tuning machine learning models for classification, regression, forecasting, detection, and scoring

* Selecting and applying the right techniques and evaluation methods for each use case

* Conducting experiments and benchmarking models with a focus on quality, interpretability, and maintainability

* Defining clear validation criteria for models before production deployment

* Translating models and experiments into production-ready services and pipelines

* Integrating models into backend services, APIs, or batch processes

* Implementing version control for code, configuration, models, and datasets

* Contributing to standardized, reliable deployment approaches for ML solutions

* Setting up and maintaining ML pipelines, CI/CD processes, and release strategies for ML components

* Monitoring performance, stability, latency, error handling, data drift, and model drift

* Developing retraining and feedback mechanisms to keep models current and performant

* Ensuring reliability, scalability, cost control, and operational manageability of ML solutions

* Coordinating with developers, data engineers, architects, and business stakeholders on technical choices and implementation

* Contributing to best practices in ML engineering, testing, deployment, and monitoring

* Documenting implementations, assumptions, and operational considerations

* Sharing knowledge and actively contributing to the maturity of ML within the organization

What We’re Looking For

Technical Skills

* Python for data and ML development (Confirmed)

* Azure (nice to have)

* C# / .NET / Blazor Framework

* CI/CD, version control, and deployment of ML services

* Containerization and deployment patterns (Docker)

* Data preparation, feature engineering, and model validation

* Experiment tracking, model registry, or workflow orchestration

* Integration of ML components in applications or backend services

* Machine learning libraries and open source tools (scikit-learn, PyTorch, Langraph, Ollama, LangChain)

* ML pipelines and MLOps practices (Azure DevOps)

* Monitoring of models and pipelines (logging, metrics, drift detection, OpenTelemetry, DynaTrace)

* SQL and data processing in production context

Language Proficiency

* Fluency in either French or Dutch

* Understanding of the second language is a strong advantage

Other Requirements

* Experience working in Agile SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework) environments

* Hybrid work regime: 2 days onsite in Brussels, 3 days remote

* Ability to thrive in a bilingual, informal, and multidisciplinary setting
