Lead Software Engineer

About the role

This is a full-time hybrid role based in Toronto, with flexibility for some work-from-home days. We’re looking for a hands-on Lead Software Engineer who can contribute across the stack, help shape product and technical direction, and lead the development of high-quality user and platform experiences.

This role is ideal for someone who is strong in both back-end and front-end development, and who is excited about building polished products end-to-end. Experience with mobile applications is a strong plus. You’ll work closely with leadership and cross-functional teammates to design, build, and scale AI-powered software in a fast-moving startup environment.

What you’ll do

* Lead the design, development, and deployment of full-stack software systems

* Build and improve customer-facing product experiences across web applications

* Contribute to back-end architecture, APIs, data flows, and application performance

* Collaborate with product, design, and leadership to define and ship features

* Establish best practices for code quality, testing, maintainability, and reliability

* Help drive technical decisions, system design, and engineering standards

* Mentor engineers and support a strong execution culture

* Evaluate and adopt modern AI-assisted development workflows and coding tools

What we’re looking for

* Strong experience as a full-stack software engineer, with experience leading complex technical projects

* Strong front-end skills and a track record of building high-quality product experiences

* Solid back-end engineering and architecture fundamentals

* Experience building and shipping production applications end-to-end

* Good product judgment and the ability to work closely with non-technical stakeholders

* Experience working effectively in startup or high-ownership environments

* Strong communication and collaboration skills

* Experience using AI coding tools or AI-assisted development workflows

* Prior leadership or people management experience is a plus

* Experience with mobile app development is a big plus

Additional qualifications that would stand out

* Experience building AI-native or LLM-powered products

* Experience with React, TypeScript, modern front-end architecture, and design systems

* Experience with mobile frameworks such as React Native, Flutter, iOS, or Android

* Strong API design and distributed systems experience

* Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, and observability

* Ability to move between strategy and hands-on implementation

* Experience hiring, mentoring, and growing engineering teams

* Strong ownership mindset and bias toward execution
