Full Description

Company: Quminex (www.quminex.com)

Location: Sherbrooke, QC / Hybrid

Term: Initial 6-8 month contract

Company Overview

At Quminex, we're harnessing the power of quantum and AI to pioneer a new era of mineral exploration. Our approach integrates advanced technologies with expert geoscience insights to uncover hidden opportunities.

Quminex transforms complex mineral exploration data into valuable opportunities. We gather and analyze multi-dimensional data sets, generate predictive models, and validate potential ore deposits to create strategic opportunities for our partners. As the only company of its kind with Canadian roots, Quminex is uniquely positioned to support Canada's national resource strategy while contributing to a secure and sustainable metal supply for the future.

The Role

We are seeking a Junior Computational Geophysicist who is passionate about 3D spatial problems and coding. In this role, you will be the bridge between abstract data and physical reality.

Working within our multidisciplinary R&D team, you will help build the computational architecture of the subsurface. Your goal is to translate complex spatial concepts into robust, geometrically-constrained 3D models using a modern, open-source Python stack.

Key Responsibilities

* 3D Geometric Modelling: Use LoopStructural and GemPy to construct intricate 3D volumes in digital space.

* Data Translation & Meshing: Develop workflows to convert 3D meshes into discretized grids (voxels) for high-performance simulations.

* Stochastic Workflows: Help build automated pipelines that generate potential "realizations" to quantify geological uncertainty.

* High-End Visualization: Use PyVista or VTK to create high-fidelity 3D visualizations, ensuring the integrity of our models.

* System Optimization: Assist in scaling our geometry engine using Dask or PyTensor.

Candidate Requirements

Mandatory Eligibility (NRC IRAP YEP):

* Between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the position.

* A Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person granted refugee status in Canada.

* A graduate of a post-secondary institution (degree/diploma).

Essential Skills:

* Academic Background: A strong foundation in Physics, Mathematics, Geoscience, Geomatics, or Engineering.

* Scientific Python: Proficiency with standard python libraries (NumPy, Pandas, SciPy).

* 3D Spatial Intelligence: An intuitive grasp of 3D geometry, coordinate transforms, and vector calculus.

* Algorithmic Thinking: A drive to solve spatial logic puzzles and optimize complex physical shapes in a digital environment.

Salary and Benefits

* Flexibility: Flexible work schedule and work-from-home options.

* Health: Comprehensive health insurance.

* Salary: $50,000 – $60,000 for the initial contract. This is an early-career position within a high-growth startup environment, offering the opportunity to work on production-level code from day one.

* Future Outlook: This initial contract is a pathway to a permanent position. Successful long-term team members may be eligible for equity as an early employee.

Why Quminex?

You will join a team with deep expertise in Quantum, AI and Geosciences, working at the forefront of exploration technology. We are looking for an ambitious individual who wants to help build Canada's next tech-driven mineral discovery engine.
