Smile Sync AIFull Description
Intern Full-Stack Engineer — Smile Sync
Remote · Full Time · Early, High-Impact Role
About Smile Sync
Smile Sync is building the operating system for modern orthodontic practices. Our platform uses AI to streamline workflows, lift staff productivity, and give doctors real-time visibility into performance. We are transforming an industry still running on outdated, fragmented tools, and we have the unique advantage of real-world testing and rapid iteration inside our founder's orthodontic practices.
The Role
We're looking for an Intern Full-Stack Engineer to contribute to product development across our multi-app platform. You'll build and ship production features end-to-end — working across our patient portal, admin dashboard, marketing funnels, and backend API. You'll work closely with the founders and end users, deploy quickly, gather real customer feedback, and own meaningful pieces of the product.
What You'll Do
- Build full-stack features across our Next.js frontends and NestJS backend in TypeScript
- Work across multiple apps — patient portal, admin dashboard, and marketing sites — each serving different users
- Integrate with third-party systems like dental practice management software, telephony providers, and scheduling APIs
- Write HIPAA-compliant code that handles real patient data responsibly
- Ship to production on Vercel and Azure, working with PostgreSQL, Redis, and real-time WebSocket events
- Collaborate directly with founders and end users to translate clinical workflows into product features
- Iterate based on real-world usage in active orthodontic practices
- Write and run tests, review pull requests, and participate in QA to ensure reliable, production-ready code
Who You Are
- Strong proficiency in TypeScript, Next.js, Tailwind CSS, and modern React (hooks, server components, App Router patterns)
- Experience with or eagerness to learn backend development using Node.js frameworks (NestJS, Express, or similar)
- Comfort with relational databases and ORMs (PostgreSQL, Drizzle, Prisma, or similar)
- Demonstrated ability to ship working software — side projects, class projects, or internships count
- Strong problem-solving skills and eagerness to own outcomes in a fast-paced environment
- Pursuing or holding a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
Bonus Experience
- Familiarity with TanStack Query
- Experience with real-time features (WebSockets, [Socket.io](http://Socket.io))
- Exposure to CRMs, scheduling systems, EHRs, or healthcare practice management tools
- Applied AI or ML in a product context (we use AI for sentiment analysis, voice agents, and workflow automation)
- Familiarity with HIPAA, SOC 2, or other compliance frameworks
- Prior work in early-stage startup environments
Why Join Us
- Founding-level influence across product, architecture, and culture
- Fast feedback loops through real-world user testing inside orthodontic practices
* - A mission that improves how practices operate so doctors can focus on patient care
