As part of this journey, they are establishing a dedicated AI Research and Development function and are seeking a Head of R and D AI to lead this critical capability at a pivotal stage of growth.

The Opportunity

This is a unique and forward looking role at the intersection of research, innovation, and real world impact. As Head of RandD, you will be responsible for building and leading an AI research function that continuously explores the frontier of what is possible with AI, and translates those insights into tangible opportunities for the firm and its clients.

Rather than focusing solely on delivery, this role is about discovery, experimentation, and strategic enablement. You will act as the organisation’s internal engine of innovation, identifying emerging technologies, testing new approaches, and shaping how cutting edge AI capabilities are applied across the business.

Key Responsibilities

* Establish and lead the firm’s AI R and D function, setting its vision, structure, and operating model.

* Continuously explore emerging AI capabilities such as LLMs, generative AI, agentic systems, and advanced machine learning techniques, and assess their potential impact.

* Design and run experiments, prototypes, and proof of concepts to test new ideas and applications.

* Translate research insights into practical use cases, frameworks, and opportunities for consulting teams and clients.

* Act as a bridge between frontier AI developments and commercial application, ensuring the organisation remains at the cutting edge.

* Collaborate closely with consulting, product, and leadership teams to embed innovation into client offerings.

* Build and lead a high calibre team of researchers, engineers, and innovators.

Candidate Profile

* Proven experience in AI, machine learning, research, or advanced data science, ideally within a consulting, technology, or innovation driven environment.

* A Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field.

* Deep interest in and understanding of emerging AI trends and their potential applications.

* A strong experimental mindset, comfortable with ambiguity, rapid iteration, and learning through building.

* The ability to translate complex technical concepts into strategic insights and business opportunities.

* Experience building and leading high performing technical or research teams.

* A collaborative approach, with the ability to influence across technical and non technical stakeholders.
