Head of Audience Growth - For a Leading B2B AI Media Publication
Emerj Artificial Intelligence Research* Do you want to work in the fast-growing industry of artificial intelligence - with tech giants like Google, NVIDIA, and IBM?
* Do you have direct experience turning content and engagement into inbound leads and financial ROI?
* Would you like to work with a small, growing firm where your strategy ideas will impact the DNA and future growth of the organization?
If so, then you might be a fantastic fit for our Audience Growth Director role here at Emerj.
This role is designed to “steer the ship” of audience engagement and editorial strategy for an executive audience already at 1,000,000 listeners and readers per year.
This is a full-time REMOTE role (our other team leaders live in Greece, South Africa, the USA, Paris, and elsewhere).
** Company - Emerj AI Research:
Emerj Artificial Intelligence Research is a B2B publishing research business focused on the impact of AI in business. We host "The AI in Business Podcast", the most popular B2B AI podcast on iTunes (with well over 7,000,000 downloads), as well as multiple other industry-specific B2B AI podcasts, and we publish to a global executive audience on Emerj.com.
We offer lead generation, custom research, and sponsored content services (generally from $16k-$100k+) to cutting-edge artificial intelligence startups, and AI vendor companies as large as IBM and Deloitte (learn more about our services and existing customers at emerj.com/advertise).
We’ve gone from a team of 7 to a team of over 30 in just two years, and we have a lot more growing to do as the AI space is absolutely taking off!
**Importance of the "Audience Growth Director" Role:
Our inbound leads are worth 4 to 7x more than our outbound leads, and many of our biggest customers (Google, Deloitte) came to Emerj through inbound channels.
We have strong edits, and VERY strong editorial standards for audio / text / visual content. But at present, we don’t have any direct leadership over our inbound revenue strategy or audience growth strategy.
Our biggest “untapped asset” is our media assets and promotional channels - and we’re looking for an experienced audience growth expert to strategize how to grow these assets and convert them directly to revenue (mostly through landing pages featuring our services, such as: emerj.com/advertise).
This role will be crucial because it handles the “heartbeat” of the business: Our educational content, and our critical audience relationships.
In order to hit our financial targets and fulfill our mission as a company, we knew it would be important to get an experienced leader onboard to help mold an audience growth, content, and digital ROI vision with us! This role will report directly to the CEO.
Our editorial leadership team and our digital lead (the person who handles the website, development-related tasks, and other digital tasks) will report to this Audience Growth Director role.
**Key Tasks and Outcomes of an "Audience Growth Director":
Core Outcomes:
* Increase inbound leads to directly support our goal of $1MM in inbound revenue in 2026 (we did almost half of this number with NO digital leader / inbound strategy in 2025, so this 2026 target is quite accessible), $2.5MM in 2027, and $4-5MM in 2028. This involves:
* Ensuring calls-to-action (CTAs) embedded across our media landscape (podcasts, website, newsletters, social, video, more)
* Rigorous use of email marketing and automation to coax subscribers to tell us more about themselves, and to coax those who HAVE told us about themselves and who might be customers to actually book a call
* Diligent and consistent testing across all channels
* Determining content types and cadences to attract more of the right audiences
* Drastically expanded audience growth in:
* Email list
* LinkedIn following and engagement
* Podcast listenership
* YouTube (and other video channels) viewers and engagement
* ^ Specific growth numbers to be discussed and ballparked in onboarding (as we look at historical data and reasonable growth rates, etc).
How role success will be measured:
* Most importantly: We will total all Digital and Content expenses, and divide this number by the inbound revenue secured. The goal in 2026 is to generate 4-5x MORE contract value than we have Digital / Content costs.
Regular tasks include:
* Examining the success of content (social posts, podcasts, articles, etc…), and determining new projects or content interactions to ensure that content is moving us closer to our goals (See “Core Outcomes” above).
* Overseeing the split-testing of various landing pages / etc…
* Directly managing the efficiency and deliverables of the editorial team (content / promotion / graphics / etc), and the digital team (software / website / etc).
This role will begin with a competitive base salary, with multiple benchmark compensation upticks based on inbound revenue growth and ROI of digital and content assets.
** Experience:
Required:
* Direct previous experience:
* Managing content calendars / content output (text, video, otherwise) as part of their responsibilities.
* Managing web developers and engineers (who build web pages, build new features, etc). ← Not necessarily managing software development, but managing people who manage the website / email lists / softwares / etc.
* Direct previous responsibility for, and evidence of achieving the following:
* Growing audience and engagement
* Increasing lead flow and direct revenue from digital / content efforts
* Career history:
* 5-10 years of direct experience with this kind of work (managing audience growth and conversion specifically)
Preferred:
* Worked at some kind of B2B media company (Informa, Endeavor Business Media, Penton, RELX, or some other company where content is the key driver of audience growth)
* A genuine interest to be involved in cutting-edge tech and AI, to learn and grow at the frontier.
