Founding Machine Learning Engineer

BehaviorAI is building AI systems that understand human behavior in the real world with backing from top-tier VC. We are looking for a Founding Machine Learning Engineer in NYC to help design, train, optimize, and deploy advanced machine learning models for real-world behavior data. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys turning early technical ideas into robust AI systems and wants to help shape a core technology platform from the ground up.

You will work closely with the founding team across machine learning, sensing, data, software, and product. This is not a narrow modeling role. You will help define how data, models, and real-world systems come together to create the next generational AI models .

This is a full-time on-site position, but we will also consider exceptional candidates for internships.

The Focus

Design, train, evaluate, and deploy machine learning models for real-world sensing and behavior understanding, with emphasis on accuracy, robustness, real-time performance, and practical deployment.

What You Will Do

* Design, train, and improve machine learning models for real-world behavior understanding.

* Develop and maintain ML pipelines for data processing, training, evaluation, and deployment.

* Work with large-scale proprietary datasets collected from real users in real-world environments.

* Optimize models for real-time performance, reliability, and deployment constraints.

* Rapidly iterate on model architectures and training strategies based on experimental results and product needs.

* Collaborate with hardware, sensing, and software teams to support data collection, system integration, and product development.

* Evaluate model performance across users, environments, and deployment scenarios.

* Help establish the machine learning roadmap, engineering standards, and technical culture of the company.

What We Are Looking For

* Strong hands-on experience in machine learning, deep learning, time-series modeling, signal processing, computer vision, multimodal learning, or related areas.

* Experience with PyTorch, TensorFlow, JAX, or similar machine learning frameworks.

* Comfort working with real-world data, noisy signals, ambiguous requirements, and fast iteration cycles.

* Ability to move quickly from prototype models to robust systems while maintaining engineering rigor.

* Strong ownership mindset, practical problem-solving ability, and comfort working in an early-stage startup.

* Experience with real-time systems, edge deployment, wearable sensing, human behavior modeling, or production ML systems is a plus.

* MS or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Machine Learning, or a related field is preferred. We will also consider exceptional candidates with a Bachelor’s degree and strong relevant experience.

* Publications in top-tier venues such as NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, CVPR, UIST, CHI, IMWUT, or related venues are a plus, but not required.

* At least 1 year working experience as a machine learning engineer. Exceptional candidates without experience will also be considered

Base Salary range: 160K - 200K
