Full Description

Founding AI-Forward Software Engineer

Tydal Technologies, Inc. — The Intelligence Layer for America's Working Waterfront

Greater Boston Area (Remote-friendly, with travel to customer sites) | Early-Stage Startup

Tydal Technologies is building the intelligence layer for America's working waterfront, and we're on a mission to transform the maritime industry. Founded by a serial entrepreneur, we're an early-stage venture with real customer traction. We're looking for a founding engineer who can ship production code fast, with modern AI tooling as a force multiplier.

What you'll do

You'll be a founding member of our engineering team, working directly on a product reshaping how the maritime world operates. You'll move fluidly between writing and reviewing code, architecting systems, and making sophisticated use of AI-powered development platforms to multiply your output. Expect to spend time on the road too — visiting customer sites, understanding their world firsthand, and bringing that insight back into the product.

How this role evolves

You'll help define how AI-native engineering scales at Tydal. Your work will directly shape how and when we grow the team over the next 6–12 months. The management path is your call: if you're happiest as an individual contributor, stay one — we're open to bringing in an engineering director to partner with you down the road. If you want to grow into leadership, you'll have real opportunities to do so as we expand. Prior engineering management experience isn't required, but it's a real plus — if you've led teams before and want to do it again here, that's a path we'd be glad to support.

What we're looking for

* Demonstrated experience using AI-forward development tools like Claude Code, Replit, and modern AI IDEs as a core part of your workflow — not as an afterthought

* Track record building B2B SaaS products from the ground up

* Experience deploying and operating production systems with high uptime

* Comfort jumping between hands-on coding and high-level code inspection and architecture

* Engineering management or team leadership experience a plus (but not required)

* Based in the greater Boston area, with willingness to travel to customer sites

* US-based work authorization

Bonus points — and this genuinely excites us

An interest or experience in the maritime space is a big plus. You don't need to have worked in the industry, but if you love being on the water — sailing, surfing, scuba diving, boating, holding a captain's license — or you're the kind of person who nerds out on maritime history, we want to talk to you.

Compensation

Base salary of $170,000–$200,000, plus meaningful equity. As a founding engineer at an early-stage company with real traction, you'll have outsized ownership and impact.

Why join us

This is a chance to get in early on a venture that already has customers and momentum, in an industry almost no one is building for. At Tydal, your code ships, your decisions matter, and your work shapes one of the world's oldest and most essential industries. Come build the software that America's working waterfront will actually run on.
