Role Description

As Founding Engineer, you will take our MVP to a scalable, market-ready product. This isn't just about writing code — you'll shape the technical vision, make foundational architecture decisions, and establish the engineering culture that will scale with the team.

You'll work directly with our in-house legal team to translate complex legal workflows into elegant, secure, automated systems. Every line you ship affects real families closing on their homes.

This is a full-time, on-site role for a Founding Engineer based in Toronto, ON. The Founding Engineer will play a pivotal role in developing and scaling the core platform, taking ownership of the technical architecture, coding, and implementation. The role involves building and maintaining efficient, scalable, and secure software solutions, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and ensuring system reliability and performance. As a key member of the founding team, the engineer will contribute to strategic decision-making and have the opportunity to shape the company’s technical direction.

Qualifications

* 0-3 years of full-stack engineering with significant backend depth

* Strong architectural skills — you've designed systems from scratch and lived with the consequences

* Experience building production apps handling sensitive financial data

* Deep security knowledge: encryption, access controls, audit logging, secure API design

* Proficiency in Python/FastAPI or Node.js with Supabase (PostgreSQL)

* Experience with GCP or OpenAI cloud infra and Docker/Kubernetes

Highly Valued

* AI-first development: agent frameworks, evaluation pipelines, RAG systems, prompt engineering

* Familiarity with SOC 2, GDPR, or similar compliance frameworks

* Previous founding or early-stage startup experience

Experience Level

* Comfortable with ambiguity; turn vague requirements into working systems

* Strong communicator who can work directly with a non-technical legal team
