Data Scientist - Game Intelligence / Predictions - Internship

SkillCorner
Paris, Île-de-France, France
Full-time

SkillCorner collects sports data 100% automatically from a single camera feed. The company, now a global leader in its field of expertise, develops Computer Vision and Machine Learning algorithms that can detect all the moving objects (each player, the ball and the referee) in the image, locate them on the pitch, track them frame by frame, and recognize them. From this raw tracking data, SkillCorner produces Performance indicators, Game Intelligence metrics, and Visualizations that are used by clubs, national federations, and player agencies.

SkillCorner covers more than 150 competitions (both Women’s and Men’s), holds over 100 billion data points on more than 100 000 professional players. Trusted by more than 250 football, basketball and American Football teams worldwide, redefining their performance analysis, scouting, and recruitment workflows.

Within SkillCorner, the Game Intelligence team transforms raw tracking data into advanced technical and tactical metrics designed to support football clubs in scouting and match analysis.

Examples of metrics developed by the team include:

* Number of runs in behind and evaluation of their quality

* How often a player offers a passing option between defensive lines

* Types of defensive engagements (pressure, recovery press, counter-pressing, etc.)

These metrics help quantify on-ball and off-ball behaviour and tactical impact — aspects of the game that are traditionally difficult to measure.

We are looking for a Data Scientist Intern to join our research efforts and help develop the next generation of football analytics.

During the internship, you will work on advanced modeling approaches leveraging our tracking data and contextual match information. You will contribute across the entire research and modeling pipeline, including:

* Data exploration and feature engineering on large-scale tracking datasets

* Design of new football metrics and representations

* Development of machine learning and deep learning models

* Model evaluation, validation, and experimentation

* Translating research ideas into production-ready solutions

You will work closely with experts across multiple disciplines, including machine learning and data science, football experts and product teams. Your work will contribute to tools used by professional football organizations worldwide.

We are looking for a candidate who combines strong technical skills with curiosity about football and real-world problems.

Required skills

* Solid experience with Python for machine learning or data science

* Hands-on experience with deep learning, ideally applied to time series data

* Experience manipulating and visualizing complex datasets

* Good understanding of neural networks and interest in how they work internally

Nice to have

* Experience with sports analytics or football data

Other qualities
