Mid-Level Data Scientist | Airvantage | Johannesburg (Hybrid)

Airvantage is looking for a Mid-Level Data Scientist to join our growing Data Science team.

We’re looking for someone with formal qualifications in a quantitative field and at least 2 years’ experience in data analysis, statistical modelling, and machine learning model design. This role is ideal for a candidate who enjoys working with complex datasets, building behaviour-focused models, and turning data into clear, actionable business insight.

What we’re looking for

* Formal qualification in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, or a related quantitative discipline

* 2+ years’ experience in data analysis and model design

* Strong Python and SQL data analysis skills

* Strong understanding of statistical methods

* Experience developing and deploying machine learning models

* Ability to analyse complex datasets and identify meaningful patterns and opportunities

* Strong communication skills, with a focus on storytelling through data to drive business decisions

Bonus experience

* Exposure to the financial services sector

* Experience working in developing economies

What you’ll do

* Analyse large and complex datasets to uncover trends, behaviour, and opportunities

* Design, build, and refine behaviour-focused machine learning models

* Support model deployment and ongoing improvement

* Translate technical findings into practical recommendations for business stakeholders

* Work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver data-driven outcomes
