Our client, a large organisation undergoing a significant data and AI transformation is looking for a Data Architect to help shape the next generation of its enterprise data platform.

This role will sit at the centre of the organisation's data platform evolution, helping design and scale a modern Azure-based data ecosystem that enables advanced analytics, machine learning, and AI-driven decision making.

Working closely with data engineering, software development, product teams, and enterprise architecture, you will play a key role in defining the technical direction of the organisation's cloud data platform, ensuring it is scalable, secure, and capable of supporting future data and AI initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

* Data Platform Architecture

* Design and evolve the organisation's enterprise data platform architecture across Azure.

* Lead the selection and implementation of core technologies including data lakes, data warehouses, lakehouse architectures, orchestration tools and streaming platforms.

* Architect solutions integrating technologies such as Azure Databricks, Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure Data Factory and related services.

* AI & Advanced Analytics Enablement

* Partner with data science and AI teams to design data architectures that support machine learning workflows, MLOps and predictive analytics.

* Ensure the data platform enables scalable AI and advanced analytics use cases.

* Platform Engineering Standards

* Define and promote engineering best practices, governance frameworks and architectural standards across the data platform.

* Create reusable architecture patterns, frameworks and blueprints for platform delivery.

* Stakeholder Collaboration

* Work closely with business stakeholders, product teams and engineering leaders to translate strategic objectives into scalable data solutions.

* Act as a technical advisor on data architecture and platform strategy.

* Innovation & Platform Optimisation

* Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend improvements to performance, cost efficiency and platform resilience.

* Support continuous improvement of the data platform and engineering frameworks.

* Security & Governance

* Ensure the data architecture aligns with data governance, security and compliance requirements, including privacy regulations.

* Implement best practices for data lineage, access controls and governance frameworks.

* DevOps & Cloud Engineering Integration

* Collaborate with cloud and DevOps teams to implement infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD pipelines and monitoring practices for the data platform.

* Mentorship & Technical Leadership

* Provide guidance to data engineers and analytics teams on architecture principles, pipeline design and cloud-native development practices.

Skills & Experience

The successful candidate will typically have:

* Proven experience designing enterprise data platforms on Microsoft Azure

* Strong experience with Azure Databricks, Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2 and Azure Data Factory

* Deep understanding of Lakehouse architecture and Delta Lake

* Strong hands-on experience with PySpark and SQL

* Experience designing architectures supporting AI/ML workflows and MLOps

* Solid understanding of data governance, lineage, security and privacy frameworks

* Strong experience with data modelling and ETL/ELT pipeline design

* Familiarity with tools such as Power BI, GitHub, Azure DevOps or Jira

* Experience working in large-scale enterprise environments
