Computer Vision Engineer – Full-Time, Vancouver, BC, Canada
AIM DefenceFull Description
The Role
AIM is a deep-tech startup building advanced high-power laser systems to protect people from weaponised drones. We are seeking highly motivated Computer Vision Engineers based in Vancouver, BC.
At AIM, you will work closely with our Engineering and R&D teams to design, develop, and improve machine learning systems for real-world defence applications. This includes preparing high-quality datasets, training and optimising computer vision models, and building software systems that enable reliable detection and tracking in operational environments.
The role focuses on applied machine learning and computer vision, with an emphasis on practical performance, scalability, and deployment in real-world conditions rather than purely research-based work.
The Commitment
We are looking for candidates who are available immediately on a full-time basis and are able to work effectively in a fast-paced, delivery-focused environment.
Compensation is between $80,000 and $135,000 per year, depending on experience, skills, and demonstrated capability.
Due to clearance and security requirements, this role is open to Canadian Citizens only, with the ability to obtain and maintain the required security clearance.
What You’ll Do
* Use Python, Go, and other programming languages to design and implement data pipelines for preparing machine-learning training and validation datasets using real-world image and video data
* Develop software tools to simplify, standardise, and automate model training, evaluation, and experimentation workflows
* Train, fine-tune, and validate machine-learning models using GPU-accelerated (CUDA-enabled) neural network frameworks
* Develop and improve computer vision systems for precision detection, classification, and tracking of objects in complex and dynamic environments
* Analyse model performance using quantitative metrics (e.g. precision, recall, latency) and iterate to improve robustness and reliability
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams (software, hardware, and R&D) to integrate models into production systems
* Document experiments, methodologies, and results clearly to support continuous improvement and knowledge sharing
* Ensure work is delivered to a high standard, meets timelines, and results in production-ready software deliverables
What You’ll Bring
* At least 2 years of experience in computer vision, machine learning, or a related field, with hands-on experience building and training models
* Professional experience with at least one of the following programming languages: Python, C, C++, or Go
* Experience using machine learning frameworks and working with GPU-accelerated training workflows
* Familiarity with core computer vision tasks such as object detection, tracking, classification, or image processing
* Experience working with real-world datasets (image and/or video), including data preparation and validation
* Experience with source code control systems (e.g. Git) and collaborative development practices
* Strong time management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks, manage competing deadlines, and adapt to changing requirements
* Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
* Strong organisational skills and attention to detail, particularly when working with data and model evaluation
How You’ll Benefit
* Competitive remuneration aligned with experience and performance
* Extended health benefits
* Flexible working hours to support work-life balance
* Opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects at the forefront of defence technology
* Professional learning and development opportunities, including exposure to advanced computer vision and ML systems
* A fast-paced, collaborative environment where you can take ownership of meaningful technical challenges and see your work deployed in real-world applications
* A supportive workplace culture that values innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement
