Computer Vision Engineer at a YC-backed AI Startup
CerrionFull Description
About Cerrion
At Cerrion, we’re building the future of AI-enabled manufacturing. Headquartered in Zurich and backed by Y Combinator and top Silicon Valley investors, we’re building a platform to deploy video AI Agents that can see what’s happening on the production floor, automatically spot problems, and instantly intervene to keep lines running smoothly, at scale. Our technology is live in factories across 15 countries, helping leading manufacturers in glass, beverage, food, CPG, building materials and wood cut downtime by up to 50%. We’ve reached an exciting inflection point — and we’re accelerating fast.
The Role
We’re looking for a Computer Vision Engineer to tackle complex vision challenges and build scalable, production‑ready systems that power Cerrion’s video‑AI platform. You’ll push the boundaries of our current pipeline, innovate on emerging use cases, and lead infrastructure decisions for our machine learning stack. Working closely with backend engineers, you’ll bring cutting‑edge computer vision algorithms from prototype to production — while mentoring teammates and sharing knowledge across the organisation.
Your responsibilities
* Solve Complex Vision Challenges: Address and overcome difficult computer vision problems that push the boundaries of our current pipeline.
* Develop Scalable Systems: Optimise our computer vision system so that it is scalable for production environments.
* Innovate New Use Cases: Experiment with and prototype cutting‑edge solutions for emerging use cases in computer vision.
* Strategise ML Infrastructure: Lead decision‑making on machine learning infrastructure to support and enhance our computer vision capabilities.
* Integrate with Backend Systems: Partner with backend engineers to bring computer vision code into production.
* Advance State‑of‑the‑Art Solutions: Research, experiment with, and develop innovative computer vision algorithms and techniques to maintain our competitive edge.
* Stay Current & Share Knowledge: Keep abreast of the latest developments and trends in computer vision, and actively share insights and best practices with the team.
* Mentor & Lead by Example: Provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members while remaining hands‑on with coding and data analysis.
Desired Skills and Experience
* Extensive Applied Computer Vision Experience: At least 5 years of hands‑on experience in applied computer vision, with a proven track record of delivering high‑quality, scalable, and reliable solutions.
* Deep Understanding of State‑of‑the‑Art Techniques: Strong knowledge of the latest advancements in computer vision and deep learning, including familiarity with cutting‑edge algorithms and methodologies.
* Proficient Programming Skills: Exceptional programming abilities, particularly in Python, and experience with the scientific Python stack.
* Expertise in PyTorch: Confidence and proficiency in working with PyTorch for developing and deploying deep learning models.
* Software Engineering Best Practices: Familiarity with version control (Git), testing frameworks, code reviews, and CI/CD pipelines.
* MLOps Tooling Experience: Interest or experience in modern MLOps tools and practices, enabling efficient model deployment and monitoring.
* Cloud & Containerisation Proficiency: Experience with Docker for containerisation and Google Cloud Platform (GCP) for scalable cloud computing solutions.
* Strong Problem‑Solving Skills: Excellent analytical abilities to dissect complex problems and devise innovative and effective solutions.
* Educational Background: Master’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
* Communication & Collaboration: Strong English communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
* Kaggle Competition Participation: Previous involvement in Kaggle competitions, demonstrating practical experience in tackling real‑world machine learning problems.
* Open‑Source Contributions & Publications: Contributions to open‑source computer vision projects or publications in top‑tier computer vision conferences or journals, showcasing a commitment to advancing the field.
Why Cerrion
* Ownership & impact: Work on hard, real‑world vision problems that directly improve manufacturing for some of the world’s largest producers. Your models will run in factories across 15 countries.
* Growth path: This role is designed to evolve as our vision capabilities grow — you’ll shape the technical direction and help build the team.
* Culture: We operate with flat hierarchies and a get‑things‑done mentality. You’ll work with ambitious colleagues from all over the world in a collaborative environment where the best idea wins.
* Compensation & equity: Competitive salary, meaningful stock option package and comprehensive benefits.
* Location: Modern office in the heart of Zurich; enjoy the quality of life of Switzerland and the dynamism of a high‑growth startup.
If you’re passionate about solving hard vision problems, building systems that work at scale, and leaving a mark on a massive industry, we’d love to meet you.
