Full Description

Computational Biologist (Member of Technical Staff)

South San Francisco, CA | On-Site

Our client is an applied AI and life sciences company building agentic intelligence to accelerate biomedical discovery for scientists at scale. Backed by leading investors, the team combines top-tier machine learning and biology talent to build the next generation of AI systems for drug discovery and research.

About the Role

As a Computational Biologist, you will partner directly with biotech and pharma customers to translate real-world scientific workflows into robust AI agent capabilities. You will design, build, and maintain the biomedical workflows, tools, and data integrations that power these agents, while also establishing rigorous evaluation pipelines to ensure outputs meet the standards of working scientists. This is a full-time, on-site role based in the South San Francisco area.

Responsibilities

* Partner with enterprise biotech and pharma customers to deeply understand their scientific workflows and translate those needs into product and agent capabilities.

* Design, build, and curate biomedical workflows, tools, databases, and data integrations that expand what agents can reliably do for scientists.

* Develop and maintain internal benchmarks, structured evaluations, and automated pipelines to measure agent performance across key biomedical domains.

* Conduct rigorous scientific review of agent outputs, identify failure modes, and drive improvements back into models, tools, and workflows with the AI and engineering teams.

* Act as the scientific voice in customer engagements, pilots, and deployments, ensuring agent behavior aligns with domain best practices and regulatory expectations where applicable.

* Collaborate closely with research, engineering, and product teams to prioritize new capabilities, improve scientific reliability, and inform the roadmap with customer feedback.

Qualifications

* PhD or Masters with 3–7 years of industry experience in computational biology, bioinformatics, or a closely related role supporting drug discovery or biomedical research.

* Strong background in applying computational methods to real biological datasets (e.g., omics, sequencing, imaging, or related modalities).

* Demonstrated experience working with scientists or cross-functional R&D teams to understand workflows and ship production-quality tools or analyses.

* Proficiency with common bioinformatics compute environments, programming languages (such as Python or R), and relevant scientific libraries or pipelines.

* Track record of critical scientific thinking, including designing analyses, validating results, and clearly communicating findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

* Willingness to work on-site 5 days per week in the South San Francisco area.

Required Skills

* Experience building or integrating bioinformatics tools, databases, or platforms that are used by internal or external scientific users at scale.

* Prior work evaluating or validating ML/AI systems in biomedical contexts, including designing benchmarks, test suites, or experimental protocols.

* Familiarity with enterprise biotech or pharma environments and how computational biology fits into discovery and development workflows.

* Experience in early-stage startup settings or similarly fast-moving, ambiguous environments.
