We are excited to add an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Governance Specialist to our team to produce scalable software solutions, tools and analyses that support AI governance. In this role, you’ll be part of a cross-functional team responsible for the development and deployment of our AI governance software and platform solutions.
This is a hands-on opportunity in a collaborative, fast-paced work environment, where attention to detail and meeting deadlines are critical.
Position Overview:
The AI Governance Specialist will shape and advance NuEnergy.ai’s approach to AI policy, standards, and risk oversight. This role is ideal for a scholar-practitioner who bridges academic credibility with real-world application, someone ready to help organisations move from principles to practice. You will collaborate across multi-disciplinary teams, influence policy-makers, and contribute to the evolution of governance frameworks that build trust in AI systems.
Key Responsibilities:
* Conduct Trusted AI assessments for internal and third-party AI tools, models, and services to ensure responsible and compliant use
* Partner with Product, Engineering, and Trust teams to identify, assess, and mitigate risks across the AI lifecycle from data sourcing and model development to deployment and monitoring
* Stay current on AI governance trends, best practices, and emerging standards
* Strategic Thought Leadership: Contribute to and lead the evolution of NuEnergy.ai’s governance frameworks, aligned with global standards and regulatory developments
* Research Integration: Guide internal research efforts and partner with academic institutions to ensure applied governance methodologies are grounded in peer-reviewed evidence.
* Policy & Standards Engagement: Support and represent NuEnergy.ai in national and global forums related to AI governance, public policy, and digital rights.
* Client & Partner Advisory: Provide high-level expertise to clients in government, healthcare, education, and industry, ensuring implementation of ethical and regulatory AI practices.
* Publications & Knowledge Sharing: Publish insights and white papers; present at conferences; and contribute to internal education efforts and public briefings.
Required Qualifications:
* Master’s or PhD in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Data Science, Machine Learning, Information Systems, or a related field.
* Minimum 5+ years of experience working with Artificial Intelligence or Machine Learning systems (PhD holders may be considered as having 3 years of relevant experience).
* Strong understanding of machine learning models, generative AI systems, large language models (LLMs), and agentic AI systems, including experience with prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and autonomous agents.
* Strong understanding of the AI system lifecycle, including model development, evaluation, deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
* Experience in the development and deployment of AI and ML models, including data preprocessing, feature engineering, model training, model validation, and model optimization.
* Experience deploying AI systems in production environments, such as cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud), APIs, and MLOps pipelines.’Experience working with AI evaluation methods and risk analysis frameworks.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Experience in AI evaluation and in assessing, identifying, and mitigating AI-related risks, including bias detection, fairness assessment, explainability analysis, robustness testing, safety evaluation, and reliability validation.
* Ability to evaluate AI model performance, limitations, and operational risks through activities such as benchmarking, model validation, error analysis, stress testing, and monitoring model drift or degradation.
* Knowledge of AI governance frameworks and responsible AI principles, including AI accountability, transparency, human oversight, and trustworthy AI practices.
* Experience conducting AI risk assessments and algorithmic impact assessments.
* Experience designing and implementing controls for responsible and compliant AI deployment, including risk mitigation strategies, governance controls, and monitoring mechanisms.
* Understanding of data protection, privacy, and regulatory compliance requirements related to AI systems.
* Strong ability to communicate complex AI concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
* Experience working with cross-functional teams, including engineering, legal, compliance, and product teams.
* Experience with AI evaluation tools, model monitoring systems, or AI auditing techniques.
* Programming or data analysis experience using tools such as Python, machine learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, Scikit-learn), and data analytics tools.
* Technical experience with data processing pipelines, experimentation environments, version control (e.g., Git), and ML development workflows.
* Familiarity with global AI governance frameworks and standards, such as NIST AI Risk Management Framework, OECD AI Principles, ISO AI standards, and the EU AI Act, as well as Canadian frameworks such as the Artificial Intelligence and Data Act (AIDA), Directive on Automated Decision-Making, and PIPEDA.
* Experience developing AI governance frameworks, policies, and compliance processes.
* Experience implementing AI governance practices in large organizations or regulated sectors.
* Experience contributing to AI policy development, governance boards, or AI ethics committees.
* Knowledge of privacy-by-design and security-by-design principles, including secure data handling, data minimisation, and protection of sensitive or personal information in AI systems.
