Senior Applied AI Engineer (German Speaking) – Deep-Tech / Materials AI
Salary: €70,000 – €115,000 DOE + Background
Location: Germany (Hybrid / Flexible)
A pioneering deep-tech company at the forefront of AI-driven materials innovation is looking for a German-speaking Senior Applied AI Engineer to help drive the next generation of intelligent laboratory and materials discovery systems.
This role sits at the intersection of artificial intelligence, metallurgy, and advanced laboratory environments, working closely with scientists, engineers, and customers to translate cutting-edge AI into real-world industrial impact.
You will play a key role not only in developing intelligent systems but also in leading technical teams and collaborating directly with customers to deliver high-value solutions.
The 5 Key Requirements
1. Experience in Metallurgy & Laboratory Environments
Practical understanding of metallurgical processes, materials science, or laboratory-based research environments.
2. Strong AI / Machine Learning Knowledge
Hands-on experience applying AI techniques such as computer vision, machine learning, or data-driven modelling in technical or scientific contexts.
3. Team Leadership Experience
Experience leading or mentoring technical teams, guiding development efforts, and driving projects forward.
4. SCRUM / Agile Methodologies
Comfort working within SCRUM-based development environments and contributing to agile project delivery.
5. Customer Interaction & Technical Communication
Ability to work directly with customers and stakeholders, translating complex technical concepts into practical solutions.
What You'll Be Doing
* Applying AI to solve complex materials and laboratory-driven challenges
* Leading and mentoring a multidisciplinary engineering team
* Collaborating with scientists, engineers, and customers
* Helping shape the technical roadmap of an emerging deep-tech product
* Driving the implementation of AI-powered systems in real-world environments
Ideal Background
* Background in materials science, metallurgy, mechanical engineering, physics, or similar
* Experience applying AI/ML within scientific or industrial domains
* Comfortable operating between research and commercial environments
* German speaker required for customer collaboration
