Diffusion Model

A generative AI model that creates images by learning to reverse a noise-addition process, powering tools like DALL-E and Stable Diffusion.

Diffusion models generate data — typically images — by learning to reverse a gradual noising process. During training, the model learns to denoise data step by step; during generation, it starts from pure noise and iteratively refines it into a coherent output guided by a text prompt or other conditioning signal.

This architecture powers the most popular image generation systems including DALL-E, Stable Diffusion, and Midjourney. Variants like latent diffusion operate in a compressed latent space for efficiency, while techniques like classifier-free guidance and ControlNet provide fine-grained control over outputs.

Roles involving diffusion models span from research (improving generation quality and speed) to application development (building tools for designers, marketers, and content creators). Computer vision engineers and generative AI specialists frequently work with these systems.
